Aeronautical pentathlon is a sport for air force officers that appears at events like the Military World Games. It features six events: shooting, fencing, orienteering, basketball skills, an obstacle course, and swimming. The competition is designed to train pilots for flying and combat tasks, highlighting hand‑eye coordination and quick decision making. A non-scored flying navigation contest is also part of the event. The sport began in 1948 and has its own World Championships. It is mainly contested by air forces, with Sweden having the most titles. It first appeared at the Military World Games in 2011. In the 1950s, there were other flying-related events in military aviation.
