Acraea dammii
Acraea dammii is a butterfly in the Nymphalidae family. It is found on Madagascar and the Comoros. The species was described by Vollenhoven in 1869 and is part of the Acraea terpsicore group.
Description:
- Male: the forewings and hindwings have red scaling at the outer areas; the hindwing shows a broad, clear (hyaline) marginal band that reaches the large black spot in cell 3; the large black spot in cell 7 is placed closer to the base than the spot in cell 6.
- Female: the wings are white where the male has red scaling.
Similar species:
- Acraea cuva (found in East Africa) differs by having red (male) or dirty yellow (female) scaling that extends farther, a hindwing marginal band about 2 mm wide, and usually 6–8 hindwing discal dots (sometimes 5).
Habitat:
- Forests.
