95th Battalion, CEF
The 95th Battalion, CEF was an infantry unit of the Canadian Expeditionary Force in World War I. It was authorized on December 22, 1915, and formed in Toronto. The battalion trained at Shorncliffe Army Camp in Kent, England.
It sailed from Halifax to Britain aboard the RMS Olympic on May 31, 1916, and landed at Liverpool on June 8, 1916, with 36 officers and 1,061 other ranks. The unit was commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Rybert Kent Barker from June 2, 1916, to December 22, 1916.
The 95th did not fight as an independent battalion. Its soldiers reinforced other Canadian units in France and Belgium. On January 24, 1917, its personnel were absorbed by the 5th Reserve Battalion, CEF. The battalion was officially disbanded on August 4, 1917 by Privy Council Order 1895 (dated July 17, 1917).
The 95th Battalion was awarded the battle honour The Great War 1916–17 and is perpetuated by The Queen's Own Rifles of Canada.
