Frederic George Young
Frederic George Young (1858–1929) was an American educator who spent much of his career in Oregon. He was born June 3, 1858, in Burnett, Wisconsin. After earning his degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1886, he taught in Wisconsin and South Dakota. He moved to Portland, Oregon, in 1890, where he became a high school principal and later led Albany College. In 1895 he joined the University of Oregon as a professor of economics and history. He helped found the Oregon Historical Society in 1898 and edited its Oregon Historical Quarterly from 1900 to 1928. He also served on the Oregon Commission for the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition. From 1919 until his death, he was the dean of Oregon’s School of Sociology.
