901 Fifth Avenue
901 Fifth Avenue is a modernist office skyscraper in downtown Seattle. Completed in 1973, the 163.38-meter (536-foot) tower has 42 floors and was designed by John Graham & Associates, with Howard S. Wright Construction as the main contractor. It opened as the Bank of California Building, later became the Union Bank of California Building, and was renamed 901 Fifth Avenue after a sale.
The building is the 11th tallest in Seattle and features floodlights that light up all sides at night. It was renovated in 2007 and earned LEED Silver certification—uncommon for an older building.
Ownership and name history: It originally carried the address 900 Fourth Avenue until July 2007. In 2016, Schnitzer West and Investcorp bought the property for about $223.3 million. The lobby was renovated in 2017 for about $4.6 million in preparation for another sale. The Vanbarton Group purchased the building in 2019 for about $305 million.
Its largest tenants include Cray and PitchBook Data. A Bartell Drugs store opened at the base on the west side in 2003 but closed in 2023 after Rite Aid acquired Bartell.
