3rd & Bird is a British children’s animated TV show created by Josh Selig and directed by Jennifer Oxley. It uses a special “photo-puppetry” style, which uses photos of real birds and moves them with computer effects. The show follows a community of birds and their adventures, teaching preschoolers how to solve problems by using social skills.

Produced by Little Airplane Productions with a London studio, 3rd & Bird aired on BBC’s CBeebies from July 1, 2008 to July 31, 2010. It ran for two seasons and 52 episodes, plus a Christmas special called A Very Squooky Christmas. BBC Worldwide distributed the series globally, with Canada’s Treehouse TV and the U.S. Disney Channel/Disney Junior among its buyers. In the U.S., it began airing on Disney Junior in September 2011, with the show shown in American English in the U.S. and elsewhere.

Merchandise and extras were released starting in early 2009. BBC Worldwide announced a line of toys including wooden stacking toys, pull-along vehicles, play sets, musical instruments, and ride-on toys, released in spring 2010. Two CDs featuring the theme song and other tracks—CBeebies: Song Time (2010) and CBeebies: The Album (2012)—were released. A DVD titled Bird’s The Word! containing eight episodes came out in March 2009, with a tie-in of books. A second DVD, Muffin Land!, followed in June 2009.
