2016 General Aung San Shield final
The 2016 General Aung San Shield final saw Magwe beat Yangon United 2-1 at Bogyoke Aung San Stadium in Yangon on 17 August 2016. It was Magwe’s first final and Yangon United’s second final in the competition. The win earned Magwe a place in the AFC Cup. Sylla was named Man of the Match. Attendance was 11,000 and the weather was partly cloudy.

- Entered in the Second Round as a Myanmar National League club.
- Beat Mahar United 1-0 (Than Paing scored).
- Defeated Hanthawaddy United 3-0.
- Semi-final: drew 1-1 with Yadanarbon at home, then won 2-1 at Bahtoo Stadium to reach the final.
Magwe
- Beat Chin United 2-1 in their first match.
- Then beat Shan United 1-0.
- Semi-final: beat Zwekapin United 2-0 at home and 1-2 away to advance to their first final.
Ticketing and broadcast
- Both teams had 10,000 tickets allocated; prices were 1,000 MMK (normal) and 2,000 MMK (special).
- The matches were broadcast live on Myanmar television.
