2016 Curaçao general election
General elections were held in Curaçao on 5 October 2016 (moved from 30 September because of Hurricane Matthew). Twenty-one seats in the Estates were up for grabs, using proportional representation. A majority requires 11 seats.
How it worked
- Thirteen parties competed.
- Parties that had won seats in the previous elections could run again; new parties had to qualify through a primary election by achieving at least 1% of the vote from the last election (about 870 votes).
- The primary elections took place on 20–21 August 2016, and seven of fifteen participating parties qualified for the main vote.

- MAN — Hensley Koeiman — 4 seats — 16.23%
- MFK — Gerrit Schotte — 4 seats — 16.01%
- PAR — Eugene Rhuggenaath — 4 seats — 15.10%
- KNT — Amparo dos Santos — 3 seats — 10.43% (new)
- PNP — Humphrey Davelaar — 2 seats — 8.87%
- Sovereign People — Ben Whiteman — 2 seats — 6.73%
- UKH — Omayra Leeflang — 1 seat — 6.12% (new)
- MP — Marilyn Moses — 1 seat — 5.23% (new)
Aftermath
No party won a clear majority. The premiership changed from Ben Whiteman of Sovereign People to Hensley Koeiman of MAN.
