2010 Kabaddi World Cup (circle style) — a quick summary
The 2010 Kabaddi World Cup, the first international circle style world cup, was held in Punjab, India, from 3 to 12 April 2010. Nine teams competed after Norway withdrew: India, Pakistan, Canada, United States, Australia, Italy, Iran, United Kingdom, and Spain. The teams were split into two pools and played round-robin within their pools. The top two teams from each pool moved to a knockout stage with two semifinals, a third-place match, and a final.
Matches were played at eight venues across eight cities in Punjab. India won the title by defeating Pakistan in the final on 12 April 2010 at Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana, earning ₹1 crore and the Golden World Cup Trophy. Pakistan finished as runners-up, and Canada finished in third place.
Prize money was awarded to the teams: ₹1 crore for the champions, ₹51 lakh for the runners-up, ₹21 lakh for the third place, and ₹10 lakh for the fourth place. Each team also received appearance money. Punjab Television Channel (PTC) broadcast the event in India and parts of Asia.
Individual awards were given for best raider and best stopper, with tractors as prizes for the winners.
