1991–92 was a difficult season for Aldershot F.C. in the Fourth Division. Financial problems forced the club to be wound up in the High Court before the season ended. They played 36 league games and won only three. In the cups, they were knocked out in the first round of both the League Cup (by Peterborough United) and the FA Cup (by Enfield). Manager Brian Talbot resigned in November 1991 and was replaced by Ian McDonald.

On 25 March 1992, Aldershot F.C. ceased trading and left the Football League, with all results from the season declared void. The club had existed for 66 years, 60 of them in the Football League, never rising above the Third Division and spending most of its post-1958 life in the Fourth Division.

The final game was a 2–0 defeat at Cardiff City on 20 March 1992. The last home game, a 3–0 loss to Lincoln City, was on 14 March 1992. The last eight competitive matches all ended in defeat, and their last win was on 28 December 1991 away to Maidstone United in the Fourth Division. Maidstone folded five months later.

A new club, Aldershot Town, was formed soon after, continuing to play at the Recreation Ground but five divisions lower.
