1988 Santam Bank Trophy Division B
1988 Santam Bank Trophy Division B was the fourth tier of South African rugby, below the Currie Cup divisions and Division A. Six teams competed, split into two groups of three. Each group played the other teams four times (home and away twice). A win earned 2 points and a draw 1 point. The group winners moved to section finals, and the overall Division B finals determined who would enter the promotion play-offs against the bottom team from Division A, over two legs. The winner of the play-offs would move up to Division A for 1989, while the loser stayed in Division B. The top two teams from Division A and the top two from Division B qualified for the Trophy finals.
Far North were the Division B champions, with Stellaland as runners-up. Far North earned promotion to Division A after defeating Northern Natal in the two-leg promotion play-off; Northern Natal remained in Division A due to the expansion of Currie Cup Division A to eight teams. No team was relegated from Division B.
The season ran from 30 April to 27 August 1988, with 29 matches played.
