1984 Metro Conference men's basketball tournament
The 1984 Metro Conference men’s basketball tournament took place March 8–10 at the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis, Tennessee. Eight teams competed, seeded by their regular-season records. Memphis State defeated Virginia Tech 78–65 in the championship game to win the program’s second Metro Conference title. Head coach Dana Kirk earned his second Metro title, and Keith Lee of Memphis State was named the tournament MVP. The Tigers earned the conference’s automatic bid to the 1984 NCAA Tournament, while Louisville received an at-large bid. This was South Carolina’s first Metro Conference tournament after joining the league from independent status. TV coverage included Sports Productions, Inc. for the quarterfinals and semifinals, with CBS broadcasting the championship game.
