1980 TANFL season: The Hobart-based competition ran from 24 May to 20 September 1980, featuring 15 roster rounds and four finals, for a total of 49 matches. Attendance totaled 112,626, averaging about 2,298 per game. The six clubs were Clarence Kangaroos, Glenorchy Magpies, Hobart Tigers, New Norfolk Eagles, North Hobart Demons, and Sandy Bay Seagulls. Hobart won the premiership, with Glenorchy finishing as minor premiers after the regular season. The league was known as the Winfield League that year, sponsored by Winfield, and the schedule was shortened to fit the inaugural Winfield Statewide Cup. Inter-state matches were held in March and July. Notable moments included the first TANFL draw since 1974, and a match awarded to Glenorchy because Sandy Bay fielded an unregistered player (Glen Joyce). The finals concluded with a Preliminary Final on 11 October and a Consolation Final on 13 October.
