1975 Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands status referendum
On 8 July 1975, voters in the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands chose among six future-status options.
- In Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei and Yap (which would later become the Federated States of Micronesia), option 1—independence—had the most support at 59.1%. The options for Free Association (option 2) and the present status (option 6) also received majorities, at 58.0% and 59.0% respectively. Voter turnout there was 52.6%.
- In the Marshall Islands, only option 5 was approved, with 77% in favor, but turnout was only 35.2%.
- In Palau, options 3 and 5 were approved, with 68% and 78% voting in favor.
