1972 Gillette Cup: The tenth Gillette Cup, a limited-overs (60 overs per innings) county cricket competition in England. It ran from 5 July to 2 September 1972. Lancashire won the title, their third, by defeating Warwickshire by 4 wickets in the final at Lord's. The tournament featured 22 teams: the 17 first-class counties plus five Minor Counties—Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Durham, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire. The competition used a knockout format, starting with the first round, then the second round, quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the final. There were 21 matches in total. The top run-scorer was Clive Lloyd (Lancashire) with 272 runs, and the leading wicket-taker was Bob Willis (Warwickshire) with 14 wickets.
