The 1948 Oregon gubernatorial special election was held on November 2, 1948, to choose a governor after Earl Snell died in a plane crash in 1947. John Hubert Hall, who had been serving as acting governor, sought the Republican nomination but was defeated in the primary by Douglas McKay, 51.13% to 48.87%.

The Democrat nominee was state senator Lew Wallace, who had previously lost to Snell in 1942.

In the general election, Douglas McKay (Republican) won, receiving 271,295 votes (53.2%), while Lew Wallace (Democratic) received 226,958 votes (44.5%). McKay became Oregon’s 25th governor and was sworn in on January 10, 1949.
