1892 United States presidential election in Washington (state)
Washington participated in its first presidential election on November 8, 1892, after becoming the 42nd state in 1889. The state chose four electors to the Electoral College. Republican incumbent Benjamin Harrison, from Indiana, won Washington with 36,470 votes (41.46%), defeating former president Grover Cleveland, the Democrat from New York, who had 29,844 votes (33.92%). The Populist candidate James B. Weaver received 19,105 votes (21.72%). Harrison won all four of Washington’s electoral votes, by a margin of 6,626 votes (about 7.5%).
