Širvėna Lake is in Biržai municipality in northern Lithuania. It is the oldest artificial lake in the country. It was created in 1575 when a dam was built on the Agluona and Apaščia rivers. The lake was made to protect the Radvila castle in Biržai. Today the city of Biržai sits around the castle on the lake’s southern shore. The suburb of Astravas is on the northern shore, and the suburb of Rinkuškiai is on the western shore. The lake is in Panevėžys County.
