Wright Around the World
Wright Around the World was a BBC National Lottery game show on BBC One, airing from 25 October 2003 to 8 January 2005. It was hosted by Ian Wright. The show gave six contestants the chance to win a tailor-made trip around the world.
How it worked
- The host searched the UK for six people with dream trips and asked them a simple general-knowledge question. If they answered correctly, they could join the show.
- In the first round, contestants faced The Globetrotter, a machine mixing twelve globes: eight red and four green. After a buzzer question, the contestant chose a number. If the chosen globe was green, they got a bonus question; a correct answer let them move to the next round and the green globe was removed. A wrong answer or picking a red globe sent them back to the start.
- The round continued until four contestants advanced to Round 2, with two eliminated.
Round 2
- After a music interlude and a memory round about the performing artist, the same rules applied, but contestants now had to find two green globes. If both globes were green, they answered a bonus question to move on; if not, they went back to the start.
- This round produced two finalists.
Final round
- After the Lotto draw, the two finalists faced a 90-second duel to win the trip. Each had two globes. Buzzing in and answering correctly let them take a globe from their opponent; a wrong answer or slow response froze them out of the next question.
- The contestant with the most globes after 90 seconds won the dream trip. If there was a tie, a tiebreaker question decided the winner.
Two series and 18 episodes were produced, and the show followed the National Lottery broadcasts with a mix of questions, games, and travel quests for the prize.
