The Wrexham Built-up Area, also called the Wrexham Urban Area, is a population-monitoring zone defined by the UK Office for National Statistics. It is an urban area centered on Wrexham city and lies entirely within Wrexham County Borough. Until 2021 it also included nearby industrial settlements to the west: Gwersyllt, Rhostyllen, Brymbo, Bradley and New Broughton.

The ONS uses a simple rule to define built-up areas: land that is built up with a minimum area of 20 hectares, and settlements within 200 metres of each other are linked. Large areas may be split into sub-divisions for more detail.

In 2011 the built-up area had 65,692 people, making Wrexham the fourth largest built-up area in Wales and the largest in North Wales at the time. It accounted for about 48% of the county borough’s population (136,055). The rest lived in the built-up area of Rhosllanerchrugog (25,362) or in rural villages and towns.

By the 2021 census, the Wrexham built-up area was reduced to 44,785 residents, with some areas moved to separate built-up areas.

Location: roughly 53.057°N, 3.011°W.
