Worth McDougald (July 26, 1925 – April 19, 2007) was an American journalism educator who ran the Peabody Awards for nearly 30 years, from 1963 to 1991. He grew up in Statesboro, Georgia, and served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II. After the war, he returned to Emory University to finish his degree. He began teaching at the University of Georgia in 1949 as an assistant professor, earned an M.A. in political science there in 1954, and later earned a Ph.D. from Ohio State University in 1964. He was called to active duty again during the Korean War. On campus, he was known as Dr. Mac and held many roles, including head of the Department of Radio-Television-Film. He was named to the Georgia Broadcasting Hall of Fame.
