The Wheeler-Beecher House is a historic home in Bethany, Connecticut, at 562 Amity Road near the corner of Amity Road and Hilldale Road. Built in 1807 for Darius Beecher and designed by New Haven architect David Hoadley, it’s a good example of Federal-style architecture. The two-and-a-half story wooden house has a gabled roof, clapboard siding, and a rear two-story wing. The front is five bays wide with a centered doorway that has sidelights, a fanlight, and a small gabled porch. A Palladian window sits above the door. Inside, the house follows a standard central hall layout, though part of it has been converted into apartments. The Wheeler family owned the home in the 19th century, and the second floor of the rear wing was once used as a ballroom for local churches. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
