Weiyuan County is in Gansu Province, China. It is part of the prefecture-level city of Dingxi. The county covers about 2,065 square kilometers and had a population of around 345,000 in 2018. The postal code is 748200. It is named for being the source of the Wei River.

Agriculture and herbs: Potatoes are a major crop. The area also grows many traditional Chinese medicinal herbs, such as Codonopsis, Angelica, Rhododendron, and Astragalus. In total, about 485 kinds of wild Chinese medicinal plants are harvested here.

History and culture: Weiyuan has a long history and 49 ancient sites, including Neolithic settlements, a Ming Dynasty wooden bridge, and a section of the Qin Dynasty Great Wall.

Administration: Weiyuan is divided into 12 towns and 4 townships.

Transport: The county is served by Weiyuan railway station on the Lanzhou–Chongqing railway. Major roads include the Lanzhou–Haikou Expressway (G75) and China National Highways 212, 310, and 316.
