Toomas Merila (born 15 August 1939) is an Estonian coach and former javelin thrower. He was born in Tallinn. He graduated from the Institute of Physical Education at Tartu State University in 1963. He trained with Spartak coaches Helmuth Kallik and Ervin Uuk and focused on javelin. He was a member of the Estonian national athletics team three times. He began his coaching career in 1970. From 1988 to 1990 he served as acting chairman of the Estonian Athletic Association. He has coached athletes such as Annika Lall, Ruth Põldots, Andrus Värnik, Moonika Aava, and Liina Laasma.
