Thomond Bridge is a historic bridge over the River Shannon near Limerick, Ireland. The first bridge at this spot was built near a shallow crossing. The old medieval Thomond Bridge had fourteen arches and stood on the same site as the current bridge, close to King John's Castle, which dates from the 13th century. The Treaty Stone was placed nearby to mark the end of the 1691 Siege of Limerick, during which the bridge was part of a failed defense of the city. The present bridge has seven arches and was built in 1836, replacing the old structure but using its pier foundations. Today Thomond Bridge is part of the R445 road (formerly the N7) and carries traffic on the Northern Relief Road.
