Ted Eyre
Ted Eyre (August 14, 1946 – August 25, 2017) was the Republican mayor of Murray, Utah, from 2014 until his death in 2017. He was elected in 2013 and began serving in January 2014 but did not finish his term because he died of prostate cancer at age 71. After his death, the Murray City Council appointed an acting and interim mayor. Eyre was born in Wyoming, served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and flew a U-21 aircraft. He studied aviation at Brigham Young University and San Bernardino Valley College, worked as a flight instructor, and was a pilot for Western Airlines, which became Delta Air Lines. He moved to Murray in 1987 and retired as a Delta captain in 2005. As mayor, Murray City added Wi-Fi to Murray City Park, built six pickleball courts, created an outdoor exercise area, updated restrooms, and remodeled the Murray Park Amphitheater. The city also bought historic Murray Theater, Murray Chapel, and Murray Mansion for future redevelopment and planned responses for a new fire station and city hall. Eyre was married to Ruth Peters Eyre and had four children.
