Stingray Juicebox
Stingray Juicebox is a Canadian commercial-free music channel for kids and teens, owned by Stingray Group. It’s based in Montreal,Broadcast in English across Canada, and shows music videos in a 1080i HDTV format (downsized for some SDTV feeds).
What it is today
- A child- and teen-focused music video channel.
- Aimed at younger audiences with a mix of music videos and related programs.
- Videos are approved by a panel of parents and staff to fit the channel’s audience.
- Some TV providers have started replacing Juicebox with Stingray Country, but the channel remains available on others.
- Sister channels include Stingray Loud, Stingray Vibe, Stingray Retro, and Stingray Country.
History at a glance
- 2001: Launched on December 6 as MTV2 by Craig Media, licensed from MTV Networks as part of a plan for five genre-focused music channels.
- Early 2000s: MTV Networks buys a minority stake; CHUM Limited later accuses MTV2 of overstepping its license.
- 2004–2005: Craig Media is sold to CHUM Limited; the channel is rebranded.
- 2005: Rebrands to PunchMuch, an interactive music video service with online and text voting; MTV Canada becomes Razer.
- 2007–2008: CTVglobemedia purchases CHUM; MTV2 briefly returns in Canada when Razer is rebranded back to MTV2.
- 2011: Bell Media buys CTVglobemedia; the channel becomes Juicebox, focusing on music videos for children and preteens.
- 2016: Stingray Digital buys Juicebox and its sister channels; on August 12, 2016, the channel is renamed Stingray Juicebox.
- 2017: Rebranding of all related music video channels is completed.
- 2019 onward: Some providers replace Juicebox with Stingray Country, though the channel still exists on others.
