Steve Cross (footballer)
Steve Cross, full name Stephen Charles Cross, was born on 22 December 1959 in Wolverhampton, England. He is a former professional footballer who played as a defender and midfielder, and he is 5 ft 10 in tall.
Club career:
- Shrewsbury Town (1976–1986): 262 league appearances, 33 goals
- Derby County (1986–1991): 73 league appearances, 3 goals
- Bristol Rovers (1991–1993): 43 league appearances, 2 goals
- Non-league clubs Mangotsfield United and Bath City
Coaching and later life:
- Brief caretaker manager at Bristol Rovers in 1993 for three games
- After retiring, he worked for the Royal Mail briefly, then moved into media
- Became a co-commentator for BBC Radio Shropshire covering Shrewsbury Town games, eventually commentating on every game with a lively, exuberant style
