Stephen McNally, born Horace Vincent McNally on July 29, 1911, in New York City, was an American actor and attorney. He studied law at Fordham University and worked as an attorney in the late 1930s before turning to acting. He began his stage career using his real name and was signed by MGM in 1942 for supporting roles. His first juvenile lead came in Air Raid Wardens (1943). He stayed with MGM, billed as Horace McNally, until 1946. In 1948 he changed his stage name to Stephen McNally (named after his two-year-old son) and joined Warner Bros. He played the villain Locky McCormick in Johnny Belinda (1948). He had previously played Dr. Richardson on Broadway in 1940.

He appeared in Winchester ’73 (1950) and co-starred in Criss Cross (1949). Notable 1950s films include No Way Out (1950), Split Second (1953), Violent Saturday (1955) and Johnny Rocco (1958). On television, he acted in Crossroads, The Outer Limits, Wagon Train, The Texan, Zane Grey Theatre, Gunsmoke and The Virginian. In the 1970s he guest-starred on Fantasy Island, Starsky & Hutch, Charlie’s Angels, The Rockford Files and Police Story. Stephen McNally died of heart failure on June 4, 1994, in Beverly Hills, California, at age 82. He was married to Rita Wintrich since 1941 and had eight children.
