Standing Committee on Employment, Education and Training

The Standing Committee on Employment, Education and Training is a nine‑member committee of the Australian House of Representatives. It is a General Purpose Standing Committee, set up under Standing Order 215, and looks at issues related to employment, education and training.

Membership and leadership: The committee has five government members and four non‑government members (three from the official opposition and one crossbench). The chair is appointed by the Prime Minister, and the deputy chair by the Leader of the Opposition, under Standing Order 232.

History: General Purpose Standing Committees began in 1987 and have been renamed several times. In the 47th Parliament (July 2022 – present), the chair is Lisa Chesters (Labor) and the deputy chair is Terry Young (Liberal National).
