Sleep Like Breathing
Sleep Like Breathing is a song by English singer Alison Moyet, performed as a duet with David Freeman. It was released on 21 September 1987 as the fourth and final single from Moyet’s second album, Raindancing. The track was written by Freeman and Joseph Hughes of The Lover Speaks, and produced by Jimmy Iovine along with Freeman and Hughes. The Lover Speaks worked with Moyet during the Raindancing sessions and contributed three songs to the album, including Sleep Like Breathing, which features Moyet and Freeman singing together. The song appears on Raindancing as the fifth track and was later issued as a single. Its release sparked media rumors of a romance between Moyet and Freeman, which Freeman denied. Sleep Like Breathing reached number 80 in the UK charts. Critics called it a hypnotic, atmospheric ballad and praised the vocal duet and production, though opinions were mixed. Some reviewers saw the song as a standout on Raindancing, while others dismissed it as dull or overly sentimental. The single’s B-side was a live version of Love Resurrection, and there were several 7-inch and 12-inch releases. A music video was produced for the track.
