Sławomir Szmal
Sławomir Szmal, born 2 October 1978 in Strzelce Opolskie, Poland, is a former Polish handball goalkeeper. He played for the Poland national team from 1998 to 2016, earning 298 caps and competing at the Beijing 2008 Olympics. Szmal won a silver medal at the 2007 World Championship and bronze medals in 2009 and 2015. He was named IHF World Player of the Year in 2009. At club level, he played for teams including Rhein-Neckar Löwen and Vive Kielce, where he finished his playing career in 2018. Since then he has worked as a goalkeeping coach for Vive Kielce (from 2018) and for the Poland national team (from 2019). He is married to Aneta, a former handball player, and they have a son named Filip. Szmal is the president of the Polish Handball Association.
