Rowing at the 1936 Summer Olympics took place from August 11 to 14 on a regatta course at Grünau on the Langer See. Seven events were fought, with 313 rowers from 24 nations competing.

Germany dominated the regatta, winning medals in every event and taking five golds.

The final race, the men's eight, was won by a United States team from the University of Washington. They followed their usual pattern—start slowly and finish strong—and the finish was very close, with only about one second separating the top three boats after a race of about six and a half minutes. This event is described in The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown.
