Robert Sacre
Robert Sacre is an American-Canadian former professional basketball player who is now an executive in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL). He holds dual citizenship and has played for Canada's national team.
Born on June 6, 1989, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Sacre is the son of NFL player Greg LaFleur and former LSU basketball player Leslie Sacre. His Canadian mother moved back to Canada when he was seven, and Sacre grew up in North Vancouver, British Columbia. By the eighth grade he stood 6 feet 8 inches tall. He attended Handsworth Secondary School, where he helped the team win the British Columbia Provincial Championship and earned MVP honors. He was a highly regarded recruit, ranked as a four-star center and one of the top players in Canada.
Sacre played college basketball at Gonzaga University from 2007 to 2012. He redshirted the 2008–09 season due to a foot injury, then became a regular contributor. He finished his Gonzaga career with 1,270 points, 679 rebounds and 186 blocks. He earned two First-team All-West Coast Conference selections (2011, 2012) and was the WCC Defensive Player of the Year in 2012.
In the 2012 NBA draft, Sacre was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 60th and final pick. He made his NBA debut on October 31, 2012, and scored his first points a few days later. He played for the Lakers from 2012 to 2016, with time in the NBA Development League. He re-signed with the Lakers in 2013 on a three-year contract. A notable moment came in February 2014 during a game against the Cavaliers when he fouled out but stayed in the game after a technical foul.
After a brief stint with the New Orleans Pelicans in 2016, Sacre played in Japan for Hitachi SunRockers Tokyo-Shibuya from 2017 to 2019.
Internationally, Sacre represented Canada at events such as the 2010 FIBA World Championship and the 2015 FIBA Americas Championship, and he also played in the 2006 FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship.
In 2021, Sacre was named the assistant general manager for a CEBL team, continuing his involvement in basketball off the court.
