Robert Leo Prestel (born February 11, 1936) is an American intelligence official and mathematician. He served as the 13th Deputy Director of the National Security Agency from July 29, 1990, to February 1, 1994, and was the highest-ranking civilian at the NSA during his tenure. He joined the NSA in 1962 and held many roles, including Director of Education and Training and Deputy Director for Research and Engineering. Prestel has served as a trustee for the Institute for Defense Analyses and on the Board of Directors of WJ Communications; he is a trustee emeritus of the Institute for Defense Analyses. He resides in Maryland. His awards include the President's Distinguished Executive Award (1988), the Department of Defense Distinguished Civilian Service Award (1988), and the National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal (1991).
