Ride with Funkmaster Flex
Ride with Funkmaster Flex is a U.S. TV show about cars and car culture. It was produced by MTV Networks and aired for two seasons from August 16, 2003, to July 24, 2004. The show appeared on Spike TV and was also shown on MuchMusic and ESPN through a licensing deal with MTV Networks.
Hosted by Funkmaster Flex, a hip-hop DJ and car enthusiast, the show focused on automobiles popular in the hip-hop and Hollywood communities. In each episode, Flex introduces cars owned by well-known celebrities and often goes on test drives with them. The series also visits major car shows and highlights the latest in automotive technology, like hydraulics, rims, and engines, while explaining how viewers can customize their own rides.
Celebrities featured on the show include Eminem, Donovan McNabb, Queen Latifah, 50 Cent, Ja Rule, Lil’ Kim, Ludacris, Dave Chappelle, Gene Simmons, Ashanti, Wyclef Jean, Moby, Dave Navarro, Travis Barker, and Mariah Carey.
Ride with Funkmaster Flex was produced by Lashan Browning and Monica Taylor. It was a hit for Spike TV, appealing especially to male viewers ages 18–34 and 18–49, and helped pave the way for later car-focused shows like Pimp My Ride, Rides, Unique Whips, and others.
