The Richard Barrett House is a historic home at 36 Prospect Avenue in Park City, Utah. Built in the 1880s, around 1883, it reflects the T/L cottage style that was common during Park City’s mining boom and helps define the neighborhood’s character. It was likely built for Richard and Annie Barrett soon after they moved to Park City in 1882, with Sanborn maps showing construction by 1889. Richard Barrett came from England at age 16 in 1866 and worked in mines in the western states; Annie Barrett was born in Pennsylvania in 1859, married Richard in 1876 in Virginia City, Nevada, and moved west with her family in 1861, having lived in Grass Valley, California before marriage. The couple had four children and probably lived in the house until Richard’s death in 1900 and Annie’s in 1935; the home stayed in the Barrett family until 1966. The property is less than an acre and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 11, 1984 (NRHP reference number 84002238), as part of the Mining Boom Era Homes thematic group.
