Phyllostegia hispida, the hispid phyllostegia, is an endangered flowering plant in the mint family (Lamiaceae). Its scientific name is Phyllostegia hispida Hillebr.

Where it grows: It is found only in wet forests on the Hawaiian island of Molokaʻi, at elevations of about 2,300–4,200 feet (700–1,280 meters). It is a green vine with loosely spreading branches that can form a large clump.

Population history: Very few plants have been found. Between 1910 and 1996 only ten plants were recorded. It was thought extinct in 1997, but in 2005 two seedlings were found at The Nature Conservancy’s Kamakou Preserve. Since 2007, 24 wild plants have been discovered. In total about 238 plants are known to exist.

Conservation status: It was listed as endangered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 2009. It was the second species to be listed as endangered during the Obama administration.
