Pharao
Pharao is a German Eurodance group from Munich. They first formed in 1994 and were active until 2001, then returned in 2014 and continue to perform. The original lineup featured Kyra Pharao (the singer) and American rapper Deon Blue, with producers behind the scenes. The group’s music blends Eurodance with trance.
They released two albums: Pharao (1994) and The Return (1998). Their debut single, I Show You Secrets, reached number 6 in Germany and earned a gold disc, and also charted in Switzerland and Austria. The second single, There Is a Star, peaked at number 8 in Germany and earned another gold disc; it was popular in Switzerland and Sweden and reached number 43 in the UK. The debut album climbed to number 23 in Germany.
The third single, World of Magic, entered the Top 30 in Germany and Sweden. In 1997, Deon Blue left the group, and they released a second album without him. The first single from The Return, Temple of Love, reached number 36 in Germany and number 7 in Finland; Once Upon a Time did not chart in Germany. The Return did not achieve the same level of success as Pharao.
Pharao reportedly disbanded around 2001. In 2014 Kyra Pharao returned to front the group, this time with Prince Damien as the new rapper. In 2015 a remastered compilation, Best Of 1994–1998, was released, but it wasn’t tied to a record label and was sold at special events. In 2016 Prince Damien left and was replaced by Siam (Nik Felice). Damien later pursued a solo career and won season 13 of Deutschland sucht den Superstar.
