Pasquale Caracciolo (also Pasqual Caracciolo) was a Neapolitan nobleman who lived during 1566–1608. He belonged to the House of Carácciolo. He wrote La Gloria del Cavallo, a lengthy treatise on horses and horsemanship first published in 1566. The book—about 1,000 pages—focuses mainly on horses and how to train them, but also explores the links between horses and people. Caracciolo suggests that horses have feelings similar to humans and uses Galen’s humours theory to describe their character. The work also includes a chapter on diseases of cattle.
