Nilson Nelson Gymnasium
Nilson Nelson Gymnasium, officially Arena BRB Nilson Nelson, is an indoor sports arena in Brasília, Brazil. It is located in the Ayrton Senna Sports Complex near the Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha. The arena is owned by the Federal District and operated by the Distrito Federal Sports Department. It opened on April 21, 1973, and was designed by architects Cláudio Cianciarullo, Ícaro de Castro Mello, and Eduardo de Castro Mello. The building was formerly named Ginásio de Esportes Presidente Médici. It mainly hosts volleyball and other indoor sports and is home to Universo Basketball. Its seating capacity has changed over the years: 24,286 (1973–2008), 16,600 (2008–2016), and 11,105 (2017–present). The gym is part of the Ayrton Senna Sports Complex and has hosted events such as the 2008 FIFA Futsal World Cup as a secondary venue.
