Nemesis (2020 Thai film)
Nemesis (Thai: คืนยุติ-ธรรม, Kuen Yuttitum) is a 2020 Thai action-thriller directed and written by Gunparwitt Phuwadolwisid. The story follows Manop, a young man with a bright future who is about to marry his fiancée Duangjai. When Duangjai is raped by her boss Sitichon, Manop’s anger leads him to confront Sitichon at his office. Sitichon then shoots Duangjai dead and Manop is badly wounded, later waking up to be charged with his fiancée’s murder and sent to prison.
After his release, Manop meets Karnda, a psychiatrist who treats his troubled mind. She discovers that Manop has a hidden, darker side: a vigilante who rises at night to demand justice through violence. As the night goes on, the violence increases and the mystery behind the events begins to unfold.
Nemesis had been a long-cherished project for director Gunparwitt Phuwadolwisid and was released in 2020 with producer Nonzee Nimibutr. The film, shot in a film-noir style, takes place and ends within 12 hours. It features the first major cinema performances for leads Jirayu Thantrakul and Ramavadi Nakchattri, and marks a turning point for veteran comedian and TV host Kiat Kitjaroen in a villain role. The movie premiered at Major Cineplex Ratchayothin on August 12, 2020.
The Thai title translates to “The Night of Justice” (คืนยุติ-ธรรม), a wordplay that can also be read as “The Night ends Justice.” The film runs 88 minutes and is in Thai. Cast includes Jirayu Thantrakul, Ramavadi Nakchattri, Kiat Kitjaroen, Natathida Damrongwisetphanit, Silp Ruchiravanich, among others.
