Neil Ogden
Neil Ogden (born 29 November 1975 in Higher End, England) is a former footballer who played as a defender.
He started as an apprentice with Wigan Athletic and made his Football League debut on 4 May 1993 at Vetch Field. After three seasons there, he had brief spells in the Football Conference and the Premier Soccer League before moving to Sligo Rovers in 1997, under Nicky Reid. Ogden’s League of Ireland debut came on 30 August 1997. In the 1997–98 season, Sligo won their first FAI League Cup.
Ogden then joined Shelbourne for the 1999–2000 season, making his debut in the UEFA Intertoto Cup against Neuchâtel Xamax at the Stade de la Maladière. After only five league appearances, he moved to Galway United in November 1999. In January 2000, Galway defeated the defending league champions 5–0 in the FAI Cup against Sligo, with Ogden scoring.
In the summer of 2000, Ogden signed for Portadown and, in his second season, helped them win the IFA Premiership. He also played in two 2002–03 UEFA Champions League qualifying matches against Belshina Bobruisk.
After the 2002–03 season, he joined Larne. Under manager Jimmy McGeough, Larne reached the 2004–05 Irish Cup Final, where Ogden opened the scoring in a 5–1 defeat. In November 2005, his contract at Larne was terminated by manager Kenny Shiels. Ogden retired from football in 2006 to focus on his family.
