Mousouroi
Mousouroi (Greek: Μουσούροι) is a region in Crete, Greece. It used to be its own municipality in the Chania regional unit, but since 2011 it has been part of the Platanias municipality as a municipal unit. The area covers 191.744 square kilometers. In 2021, 3,618 people lived there, giving a population density of about 18.9 per square kilometer. The name comes from the medieval Mousouros family that lived in the area, and it was part of the former Kydonia Province. The landscape runs from the hinterland near Chania to the southern mountains of Crete. Many tourists pass through Mousouroi on their way to Omalos and the start of the Samaria Gorge hike. It borders Voukolies to the southwest, Platanias to the northwest, Theriso to the east, East Selino to the southwest, and Sfakia to the southeast. The municipal unit includes several communities.
