Morse High School (Maine)
Morse High School (MHS) is a public high school in Bath, Maine. It serves the towns of Bath, Phippsburg, Woolwich, Georgetown, and Arrowsic. The school has about 630 students in grades 9–12, with a student-teacher ratio close to 15:1. The school colors are royal blue and white, the nickname is the Shipbuilders, and the yearbook is named Clipper. It is part of RSU 1, with Superintendent Patrick Manuel and Principal Eric Varney.
The current Morse High School campus at 826 Shipbuilder Drive opened in 2021. The original building on the site burned in 1928 and was rebuilt in 1929. A large addition was added in 1969, and a vocational center was added in 1996. The new building was designed with input from staff and students and can comfortably accommodate about 650 students.
Morse offers a wide range of athletic teams and clubs. The school has won state championships in boys’ basketball (1956, 1962, 1963, 1987, 1988, 1989), football (1968–1972), baseball (1953, 1988), and boys’ soccer (1988). The girls’ swimming team won the state championship in 2010, and the boys’ swimming team won in 2006. Morse is a member of the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference.
In October 2024, Morse began offering a hiking program as an option to detention, with parental approval. The Bath Regional Career and Technical Center (Bath Tech) provides multi-district vocational programs, including automotive technology, carpentry, cosmetology, criminal justice, graphic design, culinary arts, early childhood education, electrical, engineering graphics & design, health science careers, and welding.
