Morland, Kansas
Morland, Kansas is a tiny city in Graham County. It covers about 0.48 square miles of land and sits at an elevation of about 2,303 feet. The population was 115 at the 2020 census.
The town began in 1884 as Fremont, named after John C. Fremont. To avoid confusion with another Kansas town named Fremont, it was renamed Kalula in 1888 and then Morland in 1892. Morland was named for a railroad employee.
Morland is part of Graham County USD 281. The local Morland schools closed when the district merged in 2002. The Morland High School teams were the Morland Tigers, and they won the Kansas state Class 1A volleyball championships in 1974 and 1975.
As of 2020, there were 73 households and 40 families. Most residents are White, and the community has a relatively large number of older adults. The median household income for 2016-2020 was about $57,000, with some families living below the poverty line.
