Monument to Muslim Magomayev (Moskow)
Monument to Muslim Magomayev in Moscow is a bronze statue on a granite pedestal, 4.5 meters tall. It honors Muslim Magomayev, a famed Azerbaijani-Soviet singer and People’s Artist of the USSR. The sculpture was created by Russian artist Alexander Iulianovich Rukavishnikov. After Magomayev’s death, Moscow officials decided to erect his statue, funded by the Crocus Group. The statue stands at the intersection of Voznesensky and Yelisey streets, near where Magomayev once lived. The opening ceremony took place on September 15, 2011, with guests including the singer’s widow Tamara Sinyavskaya. The monument bears the words and notes of his famous song “You are my melody.”
