Meeting of Important People
Meeting of Important People is an American indie pop/rock band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The trio features Josh Verbanets (guitar and vocals), Aaron Bubenheim (bass and vocals), and Matt Miller (drums and vocals). The group came together in 2008 when members of three Western Pennsylvania bands joined forces. They released their first single, "Mothers Pay More," in July 2008 on a Key Party compilation promoting the New American Music Union festival.
In 2009 they released their self-titled debut album on Authentik Music, which was later re-released on vinyl by Get Hip Records. The band lists The Kinks, Loudon Wainwright III, The Who, Nirvana, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Sia as influences. Their music was put into rotation by the British radio station XFM, helping them gain international attention while they mostly opened for bigger acts at home.
In September 2008 they shot a music video for the single "Brittney Lane Don't Care" directed by Thom Glunt. The video featured a cardboard city and recycled materials, and Gizmodo highlighted it for its paper-craft style. They released a follow-up EP in July 2010 called Quit Music, with a sold-out release show at The Andy Warhol Museum.
In August 2012 they released their second full-length album, My Ears Are Having a Heart Attack, following a successful Kickstarter campaign. The band released the single "All Rode Off Together" on Wild Kindness Records in April 2015, and their third full-length, Troika, arrived in February 2016. That summer they filmed a WQED Sessions episode performing "I Know Every Street in This Town" on top of a building in Downtown Pittsburgh.
Around this time, guitarist Clark Slater began playing with the band for live shows. Lead vocalist Verbanets also started a children’s performing business with comedian Gab Bonesso called "Josh and Gab."
