Marchawari Rural Municipality, also known as मर्चवारीमाई गाउँपालिका, is a local government area in Rupandehi District, Lumbini Province, Nepal. It covers 58.26 square kilometers and had a population of 38,776 in 2011, with a density of about 666 people per square kilometer. The area is home to several ethnic groups such as Koiri, Yadav, Shukla, Lodh, Kalwar, Gupta, and Barai, and religions practiced include Hinduism and Islam. Local languages include Bhojpuri. The municipality is led by Chairperson Gaya Prasad Barai and Deputy Chairperson Asha Singh, both from JPP-N. It follows Nepal Time (UTC+5:45) and has the area code 071. In 2017, Nepal reorganized local government, replacing Village Development Committees with Municipalities and Rural Municipalities; Marchawari is one of these new local units.
