Manurewa railway station
Manurewa railway station serves the Auckland suburb of Manurewa on the Southern Line. The station has two tracks with side platforms connected by a pedestrian bridge. There is a large park-and-ride facility, bike facilities, and a bus interchange, making it easy to switch between rail and buses. It sits between the SouthMall Shopping Centre and the Manurewa Work and Income office.
History:
- Opened on 20 May 1875 as a flag station; a booking office opened in 1884.
- The original layout differed, and the line was realigned; the station moved south during World War I.
- A previous station site near Station Road was closed in 2011 after the current station opened.
- The current station opened in July 2006, further south behind SouthMall.
Electrification and operations:
- The line was electrified with 25 kV, and since July 2015 all services are electric (AM class trains).
- The station is owned by KiwiRail (tracks and platforms) and Auckland Transport (buildings), with suburban services operated by Auckland One Rail for Auckland Transport.
Services:
- Manurewa is on the Southern Line, with trains to Britomart in central Auckland and to Pukekohe.
- Bus routes serving the station include 33, 361, 362, 363, 365 and 366.
